Summary
The functions of cells that lead to the exquisite processes of organismal development rely on communication. Signals are necessary for cells to communicate and cooperate with each other, alter their programs of gene expression and fates, and reorganise themselves into a diversity of shapes and sizes. Most of these signalling pathways travel across cell membranes. Due to the advances in the analytical tools, which can be applied to membrane morphology, new opportunities exist now to understand these signalling mechanisms.
